Video1
This clip shows the column in the free state. With the lock levers turned outward the column is free to move in all directions.
Video2
This clip shows the column in the free state while indexing with two hex keys.
Video3
This clip shows the rotating of the locking lever with my fingers. This proved to be a little difficult and clumsy to operate. The large set screw sticking out is holding the lever inside the housing and is not very secure since the housing has no wall thickness. This would work if the housing were 1″ square instead of the 3/4″ sq that is is.
Video4
In this clip I manage to engage the lock and rotate the fine adjustment, but you can also see that the lever tries to move while I am turning the adjusting screw. In testing the lever will actually disengage while turning the screw.
Video5
This clip shows the same operation as Video4 but still not operating very smooth. Also the socket of the adjusting gear screw is getting to loose on the wrench. This is due to me reducing the diameter to get the screw inside the counter bore of the lever. That was necessary because there is a tiny groove in the head of the screw and a tiny pin through the lever into the groove to keep the gear inside the lever, which is then held in place by the set screw. This is where it became obvious that the housing needed to be thicker.
Video6
This clip shows the The addition of the base plate. This modification is only as a demonstration that the function of the device works, and would be incorporated into the housing if the housing were larger. This also contains the redesigned lever and adjusting screw. The base plate retains the lever and adjusting screw inside the housing without any set screws or pins.
Video7
This clip shows the locking and releasing of the lever and the function of the adjustment.
The base plate supports the wrench as well to reduce the wobbling that wears out the socket .
The New Lever and Spring Clip
The adjusting screw has more material
around the hex than the previous screw
that was inside the lever.
The New Lever and Spring Clip
The lever has a slot on the back to catch
the spring clip. When the pin on the wrench is
placed in the hole, it depresses the spring
and releases the lever.
The New Base Plate
The base plate retains the levers and the
screws inside the housing without the need
for set screws or pins.
